The development around the story of a young tribal girl who doesn't understand the sudden death of her mother; she curses her father and her religion for it. When she visits the religious site of her people, she is shocked to step through and find herself in the future, in her future home, where she is content and all is right with the world.

these characters and environments are a part of my larger worldbuilding project.

Environments

The environmental development done for the portal. It's a protected, but not curated site by her people. These are considered to be long-inactive portals to the godly realm of their spirits and ancestors, and are treated reverently. This scene exists as when the character is young.

These environments exist as when the main character is grown, and is supposed to show a scene of community and comfort. This is the world she steps into, and discovers that everything will not fall apart without her mother.

While developing the characters further, I was able to think about color, and what it would mean. For the purpose of this story, the characters of the past are wearing funeral attire. The people honor their deities during ceremonies, and therefore I wanted the deity to have a similar color palette.

I settled on a blue that varies slightly - warmer for the naivety of the little girl, colder for the deity and the little girl's father.

The sagging staff represents the weight she feels in being gifted her mother's staff, though she looks at it as if she does not want it or is lost by it.

The father was by far one of my favorite designs - properly mournful and solemn, but unfamiliar and impersonable to the audience, because we don't see his face. This is to give him mystery as he's part of the problem to our main character, but in reality, he's done nothing wrong. The mask gives him anonymity.

Final Turn-Arounds and Items

Key Frames

These are meant to be a frame that would portray a clear past/future difference in the timeline. The first set of 10 have to do with the young protagonist dealing immediately with her mother's death and funeral. The second set of 10 has to do with the older protagonist content and settled in life, with the younger version of herself looking on in amazement.

And that's the end of this snippet! Remember, this links to my larger worldbuilding project of "Essence." Please check that out! Thank you for reading.
